allmedia.com: A Man We All Should Have Known

As one gets older, your eyes go toward the obituary columns. I saw one today about a man whose name I never heard: Willard S. Boyle. He won the 2009 Nobel Prize for Physics for his work on the charge coupled device, known as the CCD. Without it we would still be taking photos on film. It was an incredible invention–with some dispute about who actually invented it. It is amazing how many smart and interesting people there are in the world and how few I happen to run into these days. A good read at http://nyti.ms/lbdI09

Another fascinating man died today: Jeff Gralnick, who worked at almost every network in almost every position. He was 72. He was tough and funny and one of the best executive producers ever.
